San Diego History Quiz

Presidio Hill

History Quiz - Missions

Question:
Where in San Diego was Alta California's first mission founded?

Answer:
Presidio Hill. It was founded there July 16, 1769, by Father Serra. Soon construction on an adobe chapel was begun. In 1774 the mission was moved to its present location in Mission Valley to be near a better water supply and farming land, and to separate the Indians from the soldiers at the presidio.

San Diego County Historical Landmark #59

History Quiz questions and answers are from San Diego Trivia and San Diego Trivia 2 by Evelyn L. Kooperman, a native San Diegan and reference librarian at the San Diego Public Library.
