San Diegans Who Made an Impact in 2011
From music to medicine and books to basketball, San Diegans put forth plenty that drew the world’s eye

Deep in the San Diego History Center’s vaults this January, Kenealy unearthed two Abraham Lincoln documents: an 1841 legal argument handwritten by the Illinois lawyer and an 1865 appointment signed by the United States president. While the archivist is now sorting the diaries of Kate Sessions, the pioneering horticulturist who helped shape Balboa Park, Kenealy will recall 2011 as the year she found the Great Emancipator in San Diego. “How,” she asked, “can you top the Lincoln letters?”
