Photograph Collection

Containing over 2.5 million images, the Booth Historical Photograph Archives is a collection of regional, national and international significance. This vast collection allows for in-depth examination into the rapidly changing cultural, political and social mores of the region and insight into the people and the environment of San Diego from the late 19th,  20th, and early 21st century. Document Archives

The Document Archives consists of books, serials, public records, personal and institutional collections, scrapbooks, ephemera, maps, and architectural plans.

The majority of this material is only available by visiting the Research Library. However, to assist researchers in accessing our collections, we have made a selection of information resources available online. We intend to add more resources as they become available.

Journal of San Diego History

The Journal of San Diego History is published by the San Diego Historical Society with the cooperation of the University of San Diego. The journal began publication in 1955, making it the city’s longest running chronicle of history.

Membership in the San Diego Historical Society includes a subscription to the Journal of San Diego History and the TIMES newsletter.
