Researchers in San Diego history will find this guide useful if they are looking for photographs of ships which might have called at San Diego. The guide covers 10,500 photographs at the Allen Knight Maritime Museum in Monterey. The entries are arranged by type (fishing vessels, military, motor-ships/steamers, sailing vessels, figureheads, ports and coastal areas), and under the type, alphabetically by vessel name. The entries include the vessel name, description, and the date: "STAR OF INDIA, bark, 3m (three masted), 1863" or "ORIZABA, Paddle passenger vessel, 1854." Unfortunately, the guide is not cross indexed in any way, so if you do not know the name of the vessel, you will not be able to find anything.
