Elizabeth Evelyn Sherman Sellon (Mrs. E. Mark Shellon)*

Elizabeth's family moved to the San Diego area in 1905, building houses in Coronado and La Jolla. Initially listed as a student, she founded San Diego County's first Girl Scout troup in Coronado in 1917. A member of the San Diego Art Guild, Elizabeth exhibited frequently throughout Southern California in the 1920s and 1930s, occasionally winning awards for her work. She studied and worked in Paris, New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and went on painting trips to North Africa and Spain. One of her still-life paintings was exhibited at the California Pacific International Exposition in 1935, but she was known primarily as a portrait painter. After the fair, she moved from Coronado to San Diego and continued to exhibit. In 1942, she married E. Mark Sellon, president of the British War Relief Society.
