Emma M. Chapin

d. San Diego, California December 4, 1911

San Diego's first resident professional artist, Miss Chapin moved to Poway from New York State in 1881. Relocating to San Diego the following year, she began to teach painting in oil and watercolor and drawing in ink and crayon. She produced portraits of several San Diegans, and was an early member of the San Diego Art Association.
