Hope Mercereau Bryson (Mrs. Lyman Bryson)*

Bryson began her study of art at the National Academy of Design in New York in 1918, followed by a year at the Corcoran School in Washington, D.C., under Edmond C. Tarbell. Later, in Paris, she studied painting from the nude under Charles Guerin, portrait work under Morrisset, and also studied at the Grande Chaumiere under Castelucho. in 1923 and 1924, she took independent study from Edwin Scott. Hope and her husband, a writer and educator, moved to San Diego about 1926 and settled in Mission Hills. A member of the California Watercolor Society, she often exhibited with the group in Los Angeles. She was also a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association, San Diego Art Guild and Berkeley Art Guild. Exhibiting frequently in Southern California in the late 1920s and early 1930s, she remained in San Diego until at least 1936, and then apparently returned to New York.
