Mathias Heller  

Cover: Interior of Mat Heller's San Diego grocery store about 1899 -- located in the Leland Building, Sixth and E Streets. Heller was known for his low prices and as the city's "Cash Grocer".

Heller's stores were sold to the MacMarr chain in 1929 -- later to be absorbed by the Safeway chain of markets.

The second location for Heller's "Cash Grocery" was at Eighth and F Streets in a solid brick buiding.

Heller's Money Saving Store Heller's Money Saving Store  
Heller's "Money Saving Store" at 855 Eighteenth Streer in San Diego. In 1916 the company became :Heller's Incorporated" with Mat Heller as president and his eldest son, Milton F. Heller, as vice-president.
