Pilgrim of the Clear Light: The Biography of Dr. Walter Y. Evans-Wentz. By Ken Winkler. Berkeley: Dawnfire Books, 1982. Illustrations. Index. 114 pages. $4.50.

This is a very sketchy biography of Dr. Walter Y. Evans-Wentz (1878-1965), a writer on Tibetan Buddhism, the fairy faith of the Celtic countries, and native American spiritualism. Pilgrim of the Clear Light will be of some interest to San Diego history, however, because Evans-Wentz spent about twenty-five years in San Diego. He had associations with several institutions—Loma Land and the Self-Realization Fellowship, for example—and a number of local individuals. His last book was partially about a mountain in the San Diego backcountry which many Indians considered sacred.
