Obviously designed for classroom use, this book is organized by ethnic groups and covers Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Vietnamese, Laotian and Kampuchean Americans. In each chapter, the author deals briefly with the conditions of homeland which affected emigration; institutions, values and beliefs of the mother culture; and the adaptation of the group to the United States. Although it contains few references to San Diego, Becoming Americans can provide a brief introduction to many of the Asian and Asian Americans in the area.
