Book Notes

David J. Weber, Book Review Editor

Of more historical interest, Ballena has also printed a slightly revised edition of Original Accounts of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island, edited by Robert F. Heizer and Albert B. Elsasser (1973; $2.50), first published in 1961. In this booklet the editors have gathered together all known first-hand accounts of the last native inhabitant of San Nicolas Island, a single woman who was forcibly removed from the island to Santa Barbara in 1853.
