Ballena Press of Ramona, California, has recently reprinted some anthropological items which may be of interest to readers of this journal. Ballena has brought out A. L. Kroeber’s Basket Designs of the Mission Indians of California (1973; $3.95), which originally appeared in 1922, in a handsome new edition with a new preface by Robert F. Heizer. Heizer’s discussion of Chumash basketry, and the accompanying illustrations, double the size of Kroeber’s original work and make this reprint a fresh contribution in itself. |
