To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the City of Chula Vista has published a history of the community, Chula Vista Heritage: 1911-1986. It is an attractive large volume (8 1/2″ by 11″) with glossy paper and a large and well chosen selection of old maps and photographs. The text is more sophisticated than is usually found in such community histories; the author clearly is familiar with the main themes in modern social and urban history. The text is also very readable, and will be especially appreciated by citizens of the city. The only complaint is that the City of Chula Vista did not see fit to put the author’s name (Karna Webster, one of the better local historians working in the San Diego area today) on the title page where it belongs.
