BIOGRAPHICAL OR HISTORICAL NOTE:
While in grammar school, Elizabeth C. MacPhail collected autographed photographs of silent screen stars. She acquired these photographs from movie studios, which offered fans photographs of their stars for free or for a fee of ten or twenty-five cents.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
This collection contains autographed studio portraits of Hollywood silent screen stars from 1924-1926. It also includes “starlets” Vivian Rich and Muriel Frances Dana, who advertised Max Factor Cosmetics at the Holzwasser Department Store in downtown San Diego, and Theodora Warfield, actress at the Savoy Theatre.
