SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:
This collection contains mounted photographic prints of San Diego's bay front area used for evidence in a legal proceeding. A notarized statement on the back of each print declares they were taken by San Diego photographer J.E. Slocum "at the instance of the San Diego and Arizona Railroad Company" between 1907 and 1908. Views show tidal flats, people looking for crawfish, piers, railroad tracks and shops, trolley lines and cars, lumberyards, and trash dumps. Businesses depicted include Kyle's Plunge Tank (advertising hot and cold sea baths), Benson Lumber Company, J.S. Schirm Company (selling lime and cement), San Diego Consolidated Gas and Electric Company, and the San Diego, Cuyamaca, and Eastern Railroad.
