Docents at SDHC

Docents form an essential part of the History Center's Education Department at both the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park and the Junípero Serra Museum in Presidio Park. They share the history of the region with visitors of all ages, including guests from around the world. They facilitate interactive tours for school groups in order to spark students' imaginations and stimulate their curiosity. By making history come alive, SDHC docents play a vital role in offering visitors a memorable and unique experience at our museums!

Docents must commit to a minimum of six hours a month for an entire school year (August to July) and attend a mandatory 4- week training course in San Diego history and tour management.  Additionally, docents are expected to attend and participate in monthly continuing education in-service events.

If you are interested in learning and teaching the many aspects of San Diego History as a SDHC Docent, please submit a completed application to The next training opportunity will begin May 19, 2014.
