Simple or extravagant, the floral hat played an important role in fashion, and consequently fashion photography of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The diversity of silhouette and embellishment is clear in the above images from 1960. The photographs are the work of the legendary San Diego photographer Charles Schneider. Mr. Schneider did all types of photography, but many locals will recognize his work from the pages of San Diego Magazine. The Charles Schneider Collection is an important part of the 2.5 million photographs that comprise the San Diego Historical Society's Photograph Collection.
