The San Diego Historical Society hosts dozens of public programs and special events at its four historic sites, and throughout the community each year.  Programs range from walking tours, historic homes tours, lectures, workshops, exhibition openings and receptions. With numerous activities to choose from, there's something for everyone! Please see the calendar below for upcoming events.

Make your next play date go down in history! Get to know other families while the kids enjoy crafts, entertaining activities and a special story time. All programs engage children in the history of the San Diego region.

Topic: Dream With Me! Martin Luther King Jr. had a special dream for America.  Learn about it as we share our own dreams with one another and make a special dream catcher craft.

Dream Catchers Family Day




Join us for a fun-filled day celebrating the life and accomplishments of Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to his dream, learn about what other San Diegans have done to forward Civil Rights in the city. Explore our Imagination Stations (hands-on activities), explore the exhibition Place of Promise: Stories of San Diego, and make crafts to take home.

Beautiful Simplicity: Arts and Crafts Architecture in Southern California


Film Screening and Reception with Film Producer, Paul Bockhorst!

Writer and film producer, Paul Bockhorst, explores the profound effects of the Arts and Crafts movement on both the physical and cultural landscapes of Southern California in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  The 86-minute, widescreen production features over forty important buildings in the Southland. Of these, more than a dozen are in the San Diego area. DVDs of Beautiful Simplicity will be available for purchase in the Museum Store of the Museum of San Diego History following the screening.

Time: Two screenings at 5:30 pm & 7:30 pm
