DEDICATION

A City has a life unto itself. It generally rises, grows or wanes according to the pressures of time and events. The men who brought San Diego into being are long gone from the scene. But the City lives. The Seventh Volume of the History of San Diego is dedicated to another generation which sought to command events and assure a "City Beautiful" for those who would follow them.
