Jose Antonio Ezequiel Carrillo (1796-1862)

Jose Antonio Carrillo was the son of Jose Raimundo, and brother of Domingo Antonio Ignacio. Born at San Francisco in 1796. Was a teacher at San Diego in 1813 and afterward at Los Angeles, 1827-31. Having been exiled by Victoria, became a leader in movement against the governor at San Diego in 1831. Was deeply implicated in trouble of the time at Santa Barbara, where he lived, and where he died in 1862. His first wife was Estefana Pico, and his second Jacinta Pico, both sisters of Pio and Andres Pico, of San Diego. A daughter was married to Lewis T. Burton. Don Jose Antonio was a man of natural ability, but was dissipated.
