J. Dallas Clark

A San Diego resident since 1938, Dallas Clark has been active in the city's civic, business and cultural fields for many years. His family traces its history in San Diego back to 1887. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Cavalry and later with the Inspector General's Department, in which he attained the rank of Major. After returning to California in 1946, he specialized in the development of industrial real estate, served as the first Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of San Diego County and was a longtime Director of the San Diego Trust & Savings Bank.

Dallas was named Mr. San Diego in 1984. Currently he is a Trustee Emeritus of both the San Diego Zoological Society and the Old Globe Theatre and is also active with UCSD, the San Diego Foundation, and Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.

Dallas and his wife Mary Clark, a past president of San Diego's Natural History Museum, were jointly awarded the 1998 Medal for Distinguished Philanthropy from the American Association of Museums. They have two grown daughters and two granddaughters.
